Parent support of these rules is necessary to ensure safe transportation of all pupils in the school district. Please read all of the listed rules completely as they are updated yearly. The students are to ride to and from school ONLY on the bus to which they are assigned. Students WILL NOT be allowed to ride any bus but their assigned bus, except for family medical or vacation time. NO stay-overs, ball games, etc.
All students living inside any village or city limits shall meet the bus at designated bus stops, considering they qualify for bus transportation. Auburndale bus policy states that any student under 1/2 mile from their school does NOT receive bus transportation.
Discipline will be handled in accordance with the policy currently being practiced in the schools of the district. Bus drivers will report discipline problems in writing to the building principal of the school attended. Students may be assigned seats. Click HERE for more on bus discipline.
- Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that will not distract a driver from the important job of driving the bus. Bus drivers, by law, are in complete charge, including maintaining order on the bus in a manner which will provide a safe, comfortable, and pleasant ride for each student.
- Students in grades PK-3 shall be picked up where their driveway meets the township or county road. Students in grades 4-12 will be asked to walk a maximum distance of .25 mile and will be notified of this during the routing process. Buses will not travel down lanes, dead ends or private driveways!
- Parents of students who reside in homes that serve as a turnaround for the bus must provide the following: A) Driveways must be wide enough for a safe turn around. B) Driveways must be kept clear of mud, snow, deep ruts, and vehicles! No buses will be allowed on private drives or property! Failure to comply with these conditions will allow Kieffer’s Bus Service to modify pickups after consultation with the superintendent and/or school board.
- Students are to be ready and waiting at their designated bus stop BEFORE the bus arrives. The school and buses use Auburndale District Office time as a standard. 652-2117
- Be careful at bus stops. If you must cross the road to board the bus, wait until the flashing red lights come on, the bus stops completely, and the stop arm is extended from the side of the bus. Wait until the driver directs you with a hand signal before crossing the road. Look both ways before crossing. The same applies when departing the bus. Do NOT run to the mailbox to get mail .
- Baskets are provided in the front of the bus for refuse. Throwing of any items is strictly forbidden.
- Food and beverages of all kinds are not allowed on the daily school bus routes. They will be allowed on extra-curricular trips if deemed necessary by the trip coordinator and only if the bus is kept clean.
- The emergency door may be opened only in case of an emergency such as an accident or fire.
- Smoking, spitting, or lighting matches or any other substance is prohibited. Foul and abusive language will not be tolerated.
- Pushing or crowding before entering the bus can result in injury. Be considerate.
- If there is no one getting on at your stop on any day, please call the bus garage (652-2412) or call a family that gets on before you and ask them to tell the driver. Please call after 6:30 AM.
- Damage done to bus equipment must be paid for by the person(s) responsible. Students are under school jurisdiction until they leave the bus at night.
- Give your bus driver your cooperation at all railroad crossings by being quiet. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! Noise levels in the bus should be kept to a minimum at all times.
- Once school is in session, extreme caution is used to cancel classes for the day as many children will be returning to an empty household. The bus contractor needs a minimum of a one-hour notice to locate and arrange for drivers for an early dismissal. If early dismissal becomes necessary, it is important for families with younger children to have a pre-arranged plan of what to do if school is let out earlier than the normal time due to severe weather conditions or other emergency.
- In case of extreme fog, buses will run as soon as it is safe to do so. In the event severe weather threatens the health and safety of the students, it may become necessary to cancel or delay the start time for the buses. The Wisconsin Highway Patrol and Wood Co. Sheriff’s Dept. are contacted for road reports. Neighboring school districts are contacted for their view of the situation. Based on this information, a decision is made together by the administrative staff of the district (superintendent, business manager, principals) and the bus contractor. The decision to cancel school is immediately relayed to the following television and radio stations: WAOW-TV, WEAU-TV, WSAW-TV, WDLB/WLJY/WOSQ, WAXX/WAYY, WGNV, WFHR/WGLX, WSAU/WIFC, WSPT, WYTE , WIZD, WRIG/WDEZ, WYCO/WXCO. Please listen to one of these stations for announcements and do not call the schools or the bus contractor. This will keep phone lines open between the school and the bus company for decision-making communications.
- Parents of all NEW students in PreK to 6th grade must call Kieffer’s Bus Service at 652-2412 after August 15th to receive bus route numbers and bus schedules for your student. Kieffer’s Bus will not call families with routes or times.
